Written in a fast-paced thriller style, The Goal is the gripping novel which is transforming management thinking throughout the Western world. The author has been described by Fortune as a 'guru to industry' and by Businessweek as a 'genius'. It is a book to recommend to your friends in industry - even to your bosses - but not to your competitors. Alex Rogo is a harried plant manager working ever more desperately to try and improve performance. His factory is rapidly heading for disaster. So is his marriage. He has ninety days to save his plant - or it will be closed by corporate HQ, with hundreds of job losses. It takes a chance meeting with a colleague from student days - Jonah - to help him break out of conventional ways of thinking to see what needs to be done. The story of Alex's fight to save his plant is more than compulsive reading. It contains a serious message for all managers in industry and explains the ideas which underline the Theory of Constraints (TOC) developed by Eli Goldratt. Eliyahu M. Goldratt is an internationally recognized leader in the development of new business management concepts and systems, and acts as an educator to many of the world's corporations. The 20th anniversary edition includes a series of detailed case study interviews by David Whitford, Editor at Large, Fortune Small Business, which explore how organizations around the world have been transformed by Eli Goldratt's ideas.

This book was in perfect shape, although he sender stated to expect heavy wear on the book and inside the book. I hardly notice anything wrong with the book! I would defiantly order again!

Good for a business life
I am a Senior in the College of Business majoring in Business Management, I actually never sit down and read a book ever! When I received this book in the mail I thought that it was going to be a complete bore, but as I sat down to read it I was amazed. This book had more information other than just about business, it also tells about his personal trials and tribulations, and about how to fix the problems in his plant because he is the manager. He also relates the problems of the plant to everyday life activities so that if you don't understand the business lingo, then this will help those people. I was really impressed with this book, and for me being a business student of management I know this book will help me in later life in my career. I encourage everyone to read this book to help problem solving in personal life, business, and with co-workers. Also for the business students that are going to have to read this book, don't be discouraged about having to read this book. But be happy that you will learn and enjoy this book. Hope you all agree with my review. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

A Classic That Deserves Every Manager's Attention
I have bought and given away several copies of this book. I cannot give a higher endorsement. The format of a novel (one of the first in this genre) makes the book an easy read and puts the lessons taught in a highly digestible format. I have used the principles multiple times to focus effort and influence change, train and encourage numerous staff. The book provides means to develop a common understanding and vocabulary to allow anyone to give voice to wisdom and to act in sound business logic. Make sure that you do not miss the point that the issue is more about management?s thinking ? not the environment. This is the Operations application for the overarching Theory of Constraints proposed by Dr. Goldratt.
