"Here is a home and away book for bird enthusiasts--a sensible, intelligent and witty guide to the basics of bird attraction and the major field birding events of the year. "
Back in 1985, I was ill for several month. During that very inactive time, I started getting up earlier than the family and sitting on the porch. I started seeing birds in the treetops that I had never taken time to see before. Somehow I ran across this book in the library and it was my introduction to the mad world of compulsive birding (birdwatching). The series of article compiled into this book covered quite a bit of the birding sub-culture that I had not been aware of including etiquette, Big Day, Christmas Bird Count, and of course, bird attraction. Oddly enough, it was a life-changing read. Who would have thought!
