The hero of 56 short stories and four novels, he is so convincing that letters still arrive at 221b Baker Street seeking his help, and when it was thought that he had died in his clash with the evil Professor Moriarty ('the Napoleon of Crime') young men in London wore black armbands. This handsome edition, bound in real cloth, with head and tail bands, a ribbon marker, top edge gilt and a gold-blocked jacket, presents all of the short stories, many illustrated by Sidney Paget, who prepared these drawings for the original publication in The Strand Magazine. It also contains the four novels: A Study in Scarlet in which Holmes and Dr Watson first meet, The Sign of the Four, The Valley of Fear and the chilling masterpiece The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Although I'd read a lot of Sherlock Holmes years ago, I'm very much enjoying the book. It's good to have all the Holmes stories together and in chronological order. However, doing that in one volume produced a book so big that's a little hard to handle. If I had it to do over, I'd try to duplicate the benefits -- completeness and chronological order -- by finding a version, if there is one, in a 2- or 3-volume edition.

Another Treasure from the Past
This book is a large volume of detective stories of varying length. It is an easy read and convenient if you only have time for a shorter length story. As the second of these books it also is entertaining, enjoyable and satisfying. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys detective stories and particularly the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's master detective , Sherlock Holmes.

Great Book!!
Having never before read any of the adventures of the world's favorite detective, I immediately found myself in the thick of amazing stories! A. Conan Doyle writes a first class tale! I'm glad to add this heavy volume to my library!

Antique Book that is lovely to read
I love the antique nature of this older book and it has all of the Sherlock Holmes stories included in it.
It is for adult reading but I love the historic setting of the stories. I had never read Sherlock Holmes before and I am enjoying it very much. I enjoy reading and learning from an English perspective in these stories.
