They offer abundant indications of why this singer was a phenomenon well known before operatic circles, with easily accessible examples of her way of intentionally just missing the pitch with her vibrato and all of a sudden resolving the tension with a dramatically well-considered flash. Wonderful assortment of Christmas pieces. Karajan's versions of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" are just different enough from other orchestras (Detroit, Philadelphia, etc.) to justify buying. Leontyne Price has the voice of an angel. The Exsultate and Magnificat are magnificent. Buy this and be exalted for an hour. Merry Christmas!
