For anyone seriously interested in what went on behind the scenes that led to the emergence of the East India Company and its rise to power in India, this book is a scholarly account of the events that would see Britain ruling India until 1947.
This work is no ordinary, dry history book. It is a fascinating read and entertaining as well and should appeal to the serious historian and the layman, especially as it is written in unpretentious language. The bits about Robert Clive (1725-1774) are a special treat.
In my view, this is one of the best history books published in 2019, though I would have preferred a different title.
