Agriculture, fungicides and pesticides get a very bad press these days. Of course, there are reasons for concern, but this book will give sceptics and believers a deeper understanding of why we developed fungicides and pesticides, why we still need them, and why we will continue to need them, in the absence of effective genetic protection or effective biological control, especially as world population continues to grow.
The narrative includes a vivid presentation of some historical pestilences which have consequences to the present day e.g. potato blight and phylloxera.
The book is now nearly 70 years old, and this does show in parts, but I do not know of any contemporary book with similar coverage.
