"Switching Time" is fascinating, gripping book about the development of multiple personalities due to severe childhood abuse. I was awake half the night finishing it. However, as a retired clinical psychologist, I found it difficult to believe all of the details, in that the extent of childhood abuse was so severe, it was hard to understand how this multiple survived. In particular, I wondered how she could have born children after experiencing the kinds of childhood sexual abuse described in the book; I would have imagined that she would be so scarred that conception would not have been possible. I wish that Dr. Baer had made some attempt to independently verify the abuse reported, for example, talking to others who knew the multiple's family, or at least providing medical documentation via neurological evaluation and physical and pelvic exams. Clearly there would have been plenty of physical documentation, given the extensive and horrific abuse described in the book. Despite these misgivings, it was an absolutely riveting book. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone interested in multiple personalities.
