A man ahead of his times or perhaps a man instrumental in moving progressive ideas forward, James B. Weaver served in Congress and was a candidate for President. Many of the ideas first proposed by him and those in the 'third' party in which he was active eventually became the law of the land. This book relates those ideas and the events in which Weaver was a part as he pursued political offices. However, it also shows the man to be more interested in gaining the eventual acceptance of his ideas and proposals. Unfortunately, some of the ideas he supported which came into being have not turned out the way he would have liked. For instance, he proposed the direct election of senators to preclude corruption by the elite and monied elements, yet, the influence of monied elements is perhaps even stronger in the 'modern' age. An enjoyable political biography of a little remembered progressive politician.
