Skinwalkers is one of Hillermans earlier works. Lt. Joe Leaphorn has not retired yet, and Jim Chee is a young rookie on the force. There has been three murders, and an attempt on Chee's life while he was sleeping in his trailer. The only reason the shotgun blasts didn't kill him is because the cat came in through the cat door, which woke Chee up. Skinwalker means "witch" . A witch that can change from man/woman to animal to flying spirit. As usual, Leaphorn has the murders pinned on his map on his office wall, and although there doesn't seem to be any correlation between them, we find out that there is a connection. The connection, of course, is a devious one that will leave you breathless. A great story from Hillerman, as usual.
