There is a small stain to the gutter, at the bottom, affecting the first half of the book. Hinges and joints tight, although binding sl. sprung. Overall, in good plus condition. The dust jacket has been price-clipped and is missing about a two inch square piece near the top of the pine. There are several small closed tears, and some general edge-rubbing, chipping & light soiling. The jacket is in fair to good condition. Not a perfect copy, but free of any previous owner scribblings, names etc. Holling's previous book 'Paddle-to-the-Sea' was a Caldecott Honor Book for 1942.
