Only a very minute portion of the Baja California peninsula has been explores by rockhounds, amateur mineral collectors, and lapidaries. W.R.C. Shedenhelm has traveled extensively in Baja, covering all of the major highways and many of the less easily reached sideroads. He has explored many of the old mine of Baja, both in the northern sector and in the newly created State of Baja California Sur, always looking for mineral specimens at these sites. In addition he has prowled through the undeveloped sierras, finding deposits of minerals and gem stones. Here, W.B.C. (as he is familiarly known) has written in detail of these mines and deposits, that is of gold, silver, copper, and sulfur, as well as of agates, tourmalines, calcite onyx, jasper and turquoise, and of their many variants. The book is well illustrated with photographs by the author and by a series of maps by Walt Wheelock.
