Very Good in Very Good jacket. Nashville, TN: Abingdon Press, 1971. First edition. Hardcover. 156 pp. Very good, in a very good unclipped jacket. Boards lightly bowed and leaves toned along edges. Jacket has light scuffing and edge wear with slight soil. Inscribed to prior owner by author, Jack Knox, on front free endpaper. Laid in is a folded poster of The General's Mount poem, with illustrations; poster is inscribed to prior owner by author and has occasional edge wear.
The pen and ink illustrations as well as the author's musings and recounting of a bygone era when folks used waterways for socializing as well as personal business are illuminating. Today, these rivers, which may be diverted, dammed or diminished, are not the main thoroughfares they once were. The historical significance of this book in the understanding of a region and an era cannot be underestimated. Perhaps one of Knox's most creative endeavors.
