Ocimum gratissimum Linn is an herbaceous plant belonging to the Labiatae family. It is an indigenous to tropical areas including India and West Africa. In Nigeria, the plant is called "Efirin-nla" by the Yoruba speaking tribe, Igbos called it "Ahuji" while the Hausas called it "Doidoya".
