Lost in Space by George O. Smith. First Edition. Published by Avalon, NY in 1959. This 8 x 5.5, 224 page book does NOT tell the story of Will Robinson, Judy, Mr. Smith and the others. BUT picture this: Imagine a search extended in three dimensions, where the only landmarks are a pattern of stars which do not change visibly. A ship is between Star systems; trouble develops, and passengers and crew have to take to the life ships. The distress signal has been sent out; automatic devices aboard the main ship describe the general position. In the life ships themselves are signaling devices which let the searchers know that the castaways are still alive, nothing more. The life ship containing financier Charles Andrews, pilot Jack Norton, and Alice Hemingway, Andrews' secretary, had enough power to get the passengers away from Space Flight 79 before it was destroyed. The life ship did not have enough power to carry its complement to another planet, or to the ship's original destination, or to allow The castaways to communicate directly with the search fleet. Here is the gripping novel of which may be all too real someday. Condition: Very good in very good dust jacket. The book had tape residue to front and rear end papers, glue stains to bottom edges of the covers, looks to be seepage from the paste downs, light dust soiling to page edges, in dust jacket with edge wear, light rubbing, two small closed tears and creases to bottom edge front and back and light foxing to the rear panel.
