Overall, Wynton Marsalis' three-part Soul Gestures in Southern Blue (of which this CD is the final section) is a rather weird tribute to the blues, although the individual solos are fine. Actually, the main significance to this particular set is that the trumpeter had for the first time put together the nucleus to his septet.
