This 2003 "Retrospective" catalogue was much anticipated by artists. We thank Elizabeth A.T. Smith for having forged this exhibition and its publication into being with the Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. The documentation is peerless. Unfortunately, from my perspective, the plates-only presentation necessitates a constant flipping back to a first class thumbnail List of Plates and sought for data. Still, the remarkably insightful essays are beautifully conjoined with highly relevant images. If you can't afford the full Lee Bontecou monograph, this exposition is a must for sculptors and aware collectors.
