I have not knitted in years and had never heard of Elizabeth Zimmerman untill reading a knitting blog. This book has encouraged me to be fearless in my knitting, attempting things I previously thought were too advanced for me. And without tears! She is skilled as a knitter and a writer. Very helpful in building skills.

One of the books every knitter should have
Some patterns, some theory, some knitting philosophy. Elizabeth Zimmermann's books teach knitting using your brain as well as your needles. When you understand the reasons why yarn and needles behave as they do, you can knit anything, and EZ empowers you to do just this.

Don't Be Fooled!!!!
Don't Be Fooled!!! You may think, at first, that this book is trite, un-useful, and will not get you any closer to acheiving your dreams of knitting perfection. Oh contriare., my friends..I am a brand new and self taught knitter, and so, at first, was dissapointed with the book. I mean, no pages full of stitches and patterns, or luscious intimidating photos of other people's work. However, I've found that as I have grown my skills a bit, that this is a magical book. Ms. Zimmerman writes the way we think when we are knitting-especially when we are struggling with our knitting-and then throws in a helpful hint that is a real peach. Without the leading description of the frustration or mistake, it would be difficult to understand why or when or how to use the idas and techniques you'll find within them. Nor, I suspect , will you find most of them in any other book. Imagine an easy, yes I said easy, way to Knit 2 together knitwise! It seems every time I pick up this book a new gem pops out at me. But even more, she shares wisdom that would take years to develop on your own, such as deciding on what projects to try, when to wave the white flag of surrender and tear the whole thing out. This book is like having a great aunt in the house to keep you company as you knit.
a must have if you want to call yourself a knitter. Zimmerman is one of the icons.

Fantastic learning experience
EZ certainly has left her mark on the knitting world. The book does read as if she is talking to you and you only. Her way with words and her techniques will have you customizing your own pattern in no time at all. Even if you are a seasoned knitter, there is much to learn from this book.
