The author had a diplomatic background in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. He was an officer in the Hungarian cavalry on the Russian front between 1914 and 1917. In 1917 he was sent to Berlin as a Military Attache representing the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, with a secret assignment to counteract anti-monarchy propaganda in the German newspapers.
