Tokaty has taken an unusual approach in this book that I approve of greatly. In short he gives credit where credit is due. As a result we find out who was really responsible for the breakthroughs that led us to the present body of fluid-mechanical knowledge.
Irrespective of nationality or of the regime under which researchers worked, Tokaty has included every significant contributor in a useful chronology.
And in reading, one cannot help but pick up a useful grasp of the subject. Tokaty knows the technology and the people in it and can explain himself.
This book was first published in the 1970s, but the history and philosophy it contains are still correct and still highly relevant today.
