The two volumes that the Brilliant label has devoted to Haydn's arrangements of Scottish folk songs make a mismatched pair: Vol. 1 contains but a single disc, while Vol. 2 has four. The pairing is useful in a way; those who want a sampler of the music can stick with the first volume, while libraries and others interested in a nearly complete edition of this phase of Haydn's output can shell out for the whole thing.
