On "United States Senate" letterhead listing him as "Minority Leader, " Dirksen tells his friend that "attached is some material which could be identified as 'Gallant Sons and Daughters of the Land of Lincoln. Signed simply "Everett" large and bold in blue ballpoint. Newman (1912-98) is best known as founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop, and perhaps was trying to tie in Dirksen's new book with some Lincoln festivity.
