A moving World War II account of the resettlement of Jewish people to the last place to accept them - China! Although these people arrived with very little or no money they were able to carve out an existence for themselves in this truly foreign site. The descriptions of various buildings and neighborhoods in Shanghai forced me to read more about the many historically rich sites that existed in this time period but which now have disappeared due to "modernization."
