Good condition book. Light brown folder contains 10 illustrated cards. A nice copy. Good condition is defined as: a copy that has been read but remains in clean condition. All of the pages are intact and the cover is intact and the spine may show signs of wear. The book may have minor markings which are not specifically mentioned. Most items will be dispatched the same or the next working day.
James Sowerby. Fair. No Jacket. 22.0 x 13.5 Cms. 2nd ed. 1832-1841. Vols 1 to 8 only with further volume of supplememtary plates. 1809 hand-coloured plates numbered 1 to 1629, plus one numbered 1486 bis, plus 179 supplementary plates. Vols 1 to 7 contain all the phaenogamous or flowering plants, vol 8 contains the first part of Cryptogams. Bound by Webb of Liverpool in contemporary 1/2 calf with marbled paper-covered boards and gilt lettering to spine. Contemporary owner's details on some of the titlepages. Newspaper cutting of Linnaeus on first blank of vol 1. Extremities rubbed, with an occasional split to hinges. The Supplementary plates for volumes 1 to 7 are in a separate volume in similar but not matching binding; this binding is rather worn with hinges badly split but still attached, each of the supplementary plates has been neatly numbered and titled in black ink. The first 5 leaves of this volume are stained in the bottom right margin including two of the plates. The supplementary plates for volume 8 are loose at the end of that volume and are curled at the edges. The plates are generally bright and clean.
