Elie Wiesel was among only 400 children who managed to survive Auschwitz. He has devoted his life since the war to battling injustice and has been an ardent spokesman for Soviet Jews and other moral causes. In 1985, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his humanitarian achievements. This JPS Young Biography has been well researched and clearly written.
