The author goes beyond the regular WWII history we are familiar with and puts you deep into the various campaigns in the Pacific, China and Burma.
Mr. Spector did an excellent job historically but it's the little things in those campaigns we didn't know about and are so often ignored by other historians and that is where this book shines.
One of the best histories I have read.

Things we should know about the War with Japan
World War II began way before the United States got involved. The Japanese had been at war for since 1937 in China before they initiated their Southern Strategy. This book describes how the united States got dragged into an existing war and took the leadership role and changed the direction of the twentieth century.

Eagle against the Sun
An excellent one volume history of the Pacific War. Leaves out nothing critical yet still gives some excellent insights into the lot of the troops involved.
