Back in 1999, after Clifford Harris signed with LaFace, he changed his formal performing name from TIP to T.I. out of deference to elder Q-Tip, who was on the roster of parent label Arista. As anyone remotely familiar with Harris' output knows, the rapper continued to refer to himself as both "Tip and "TIP."
