I only have the old version as the above item was very expensive to my price range. However, Claire Shaeffer's books are priceless with detail information, examples and supportive.
I recommend everyone buying from Alibris and their affiliate vendors for their available products at reasonable prices.
Keep up the great work everyone!!!

Book of Knowledge
I love this tome on fabric manufacturing, handling, care and sewing. Well-written and thorough. Ms. Shaeffer's knowledge of the subject is amazing. I will be collecting all of her books.

Essential sewing book at all sewing levels
Claire Schaeffer's books are always good. This book contains so much information that it may take a few minutes to look up what you need to know. It saves time though, because you'll find out the needle type/size, thread type, machine tension settings, and fabric handling requirements and this cuts down on the time to get the sample stitching right. If you don't make sample stitches, you wind up with puckers, broken threads, slipped stitches, etc. especially for fine fabrics.
Even experienced sewists have to look up this information. There's just too much to remember everything. Inexperienced sewists don't know enough to judge how to sew different types of fabric, so this book is especially good for them.
I highly recommend this book in any edition for everyone at all sewing skill levels.
