Cartes de Visite were the first mass production photography to spread through the American middle class. If you have to try to date a carte de visite that is otherwise without clues, this book is a must.

buy it when it's possible
Great resource for all interested in appreciation, characterization and identification of XIX century photographs. Especially for CDVs lovers! As far as I know and I've heard from the specialist in the field the only publication fully devoted to CDVs.
