Book VG+ with mild wear to spine ends and corners, binding tight, previous owner's signature to front flyleaf, otherwise text clean and unmarked. DJ VG with edgewear, rubbing, toning, mild sun to spine, and small closed tear to top rear panel at spine joint.
234pp. Oblong quarto [24 cm x 31 cm] Rust colored cloth over boards with a gilt stamped title on the spine. Very good condition. Lightly rubbed at the spine ends and corners of the covers. In a very good dust jacket, with mild edge wear. Carleton E. Watkins documented the American west between 1854 and 1891, and his 1861 photographs of Yosemite made such an impact on legislators, that Congress moved to preserve the area as wilderness in 1864.
