Very Good in VG+ jacket. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Signed by Author Tan cloth, lettered in red and black on spine panel. Possible 1st edition with correct binding, but title page shows no indication of edition/printing and appears to be different paper, thus a possible cancel. xi, 270 pp. Mild shelf wear, small area of wax drip and another of mild flecking on front cover, a bit rubbed at corners and spine extremities with exposure to bottom corners. Library stamp to copyright page, no other marks or stamps. Later issue dust jacket shows faded red spine lettering, sticker shadow to lower spine, price clipped front flap, displays well in archival mylar. Signed by author on half-title, full signature, no inscription.
Near Fine in VG- jacket. Book. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Signed by Author(s) Tan cloth, lettered in red and black on spine panel. Stated First Edition. xi, 270 pp. Mild binding lean appears original to issue; slightly rubbed spine extremities. Notably well preserved copy. Dust jacket chipped with several closed tears and minor loss at spine extremities, area of surface paper loss along top rear edge, chipped corners, mild creasing to rear flap. Original $3.50 price and 3/57 date intact on front flap, now in mylar; overall DJ condition G to G+. Inscribed by author on front flyleaf, to Robert Archer, dated Jenkintown (Pennsylvania), 11 June 1957. Author's eighth book, desirable vintage inscription dating within three months of initial publication in March 1957.
Very engrossing story of the 1956 hungarian uprising, which sadly has largely faded from our collective memory. Still, there was undaunted heroism and it presaged by many years the very same nationalist surges that ultimately brought down the Soviet empire. Very readable, but the part about the torture of prisoners is revolting. Be warned.

Not James Michner as you normally expect. However the book is right on a little known historical event. Some of the people in the book are composites instead of 100% authentic. This is used to condense the details. I enjoyed reading the book.
