Demographics--the study of human populations--is a highly potent but strangely underused tool for understanding the past and foretelling the future. In this book, economist David Foot and journalist Daniel Stoffman take a look at the importance of demographics in predicting what's ahead for baby boomers, "baby busters", the "echo generation", and other groups in the coming years. This book is a study of baby Boomers, the generation born following them(baby bust) and the generation of boomer's children (Echo). The authors look at demographic trends in all facets of Canadian life and how each of these groups have come upon predictable (through the study of demographics) age related trends. The book points out how the face of Canada's cities was changed as the boomers came of age. A picture is painted of Canadian housing needs and housing supply. The authors discuss our health care and education systems and how they have been affected by each of these generational groups. They also look into Canada's future and how well (or not) our society is dealing with wants and needs of our aging population. Very interesting reading although i would recommend one of the newer versions of this book so that the information is more current. Actually reading this first version along with whichever is the newest would also be a great way to consider demographics and just how acuratly our authors have been able to make their predictions for the future.
