Illustrated. Near Fine. No Jacket. Book. 8vo-over 7¾-9¾" tall. English language translation in fine shape save for sunned spine. Internally crisp and unmarked. Gift quality foundation volume on the game of chess. The Father of Modern Chess clearly instructs the chess student on the proper handling of pawn majorities, both qualitative and quantitative, center and flank; the creation of passes pawns; and the defense against passed pawns by restriction and, as a climax-the Blockade! Twenty-one annotated games illustrate these fundamentals of good chess play in the style made famous by the classic "My System".
His first published book, just before "My System". The translators (1980) include some other of his articles, with a couple of game duplications that are not clearly marked as such. It's still quite interesting and surprisingly fresh even when the reader already knows the concept. Recommended for all level of chess playing strength. It's shorter than its 64 pages, but that makes it a quicker read.
