Hardback. Good. First edition. First printing. No DW. Remarkably good condition considering the date of publication. Slightly bumped at top and bottom of spine. Stamp on title page reads 'Colonial Edition'. Initials and date of 1939 appear on front end page. (This is odd as the book was not published until 1941. ) Otherwise no annotations or inscriptions. 'Between Two Worlds' is the second novel in Upton Sinclair's Lanny Budd series. First published in 1941, the story covers the period from 1919 to 1929. This volume deals with the aftermath of World War I in Europe during the 1920s (with the Beer Hall Putsch, the Italian fascist regime and some of the important conferences) and later the Roaring Twenties. "Sinclair devoted his writing career to documenting and criticizing the social and economic conditions of the early twentieth century in both fiction and non-fiction. He expressed his view of the injustices of capitalism and the overwhelming effects of poverty among the working class." A series of fascinating insights into the international developments between the two world wars of the twentieth century from the perspective of a central character who, like Upton Sinclair himself, had strong connections in both the upper and lower classes. Hence the title.
