The author, who rose to the rank of Major General, served in World War I. In December 1941 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 3rd Infantry Division. Later General Lauer directed the 99th Infantry Division throughout its operations in the European Theater of Operations. This is the 28th volume in the Battery Press Divisional Series.
