This book is not mediocre, but it isn't amazing. It has a nice little collection of poetry in it which includes all of Frank Horne's "Notes Found Near a Suicide" and a nice sum of Claude McKay poetry. Unfortunately, I couldn't find Phillis Wheatley in there. It covers a good portion of Harlem Renaissance poems, but that is really all that makes this a book of quality. I would recommend "The Black Poets" edited by Dudly Randall if you would like a more diverse collection of poems which range from enslavement to the 1960's. This book seems to be set in one time period, but it is still a great book to read.
