From Nero's nagging mother (whom he found especially annoying after taking her as his lover) to Catherine's stable of studs (not of the equine variety), here is a wickedly delightful look at the most scandalous royal doings you never learned about in history class. Gleeful, naughty, sometimes perverted-like so many of the crowned heads themselves- A Treasury of Royal Scandals presents the best (the worst?) of royal misbehavior through the ages. From ancient Rome to Edwardian England, from the lavish rooms of Versailles to the dankest corners of the Bastille, the great royals of Europe have excelled at savage parenting, deadly rivalry, pathological lust, and meeting death with the utmost indignity-or just very bad luck.

This is my kind of author, quirky, factual and not so wordy as to put you to sleep. He has an engaging type of writing that is not dry like a chinook wind. He dishes some dirt, but it's real dirt, not hinting or being PC, he tells a story with all of its warts. I feel like I am being written to as an adult. And, you learn some history, win win kind of author.

Jaw dropping
History books don't tell us nearly enough of the good stuff. I would have listened more if these were the types of stories we were being taught. Jaw dropping at moments. Just goes to show that ppl don't change no matter what century.

Not in depth besides the errors
Has some interesting facts I didn't know about, but I don't know if I can trust their veracity since there are so many errors in this shallowly written book. Not as interesting as it could be and has amazingly short chapters.

ROYALS ARE MESSED-UP, TOO!!
This book is hysterical! You get to read about all the things that our "betters" did behind the scenes. They are human after all, and sometimes just plain nuts!!! It's amazing that they had any time to run whole countries or religious groups, and that these countries survived their rule is even more astounding! If you like the behind-the-scenes stuff of history, this is a must read. It would even make a great "bathroom book" since the stories are not very long, but very enjoyable and written to give entertainment along with information. BUY THIS BOOK!!!!
