I am about 2/3rds through this text. It is very good for a broad overview of an incredibly long and diverse region's history. There are a few inaccuracies and a few points where the authors do not go into depth on an issue that is of great importance to many people, as pointed out by my history instructor and my own general knowledge, but that is to be expected in any text written by a human (personal viewpoints always work their way in). I would recommend this for a history course looking broadly at India's history, but not for a class going in depth on key historical moments.

Interesting, Informative and Readable
As we are about to journey to India, I went looking for a short history of India - This book was recommended and I found it a very good suggestion - Not only is it an 'easy read', its packed with information on the country, its people, its culture and the factors that influenced its development into the nation we know today - Im sure the book's 460 pages didnt fully cover the subject, but for someone interested in India either superficially or wanting an introduction this is a good place to start - I read it with interest and plan to re-read it just prior to our departure...
