The more things change the more they stay the same. Dr. Larson describes the Presidential Election of 1800 but does not mention how much it was like the current political climate. The party that had been in power for three presidential terms lost the popular vote yet during there lame-duck status tried to push through their programs and their people to make it difficult for the next administration. Federalists, having lost tried to co-opt Aaron Burr over Jefferson and would not compromise. It wasn't until the last minute and they discovered they could not really trust Burr that they abstained from voting and let the election go to Jefferson. But while he is getting to the end, Larson also describes the Federalists' policies that greatly favored business and the rich while doing nothing for the common man; and the implementation of the Alien and Sedition Acts which find their counter-part in the PATRIOT Act. And for those strict Constitution Constructionists, which founding Fathers are we talking about? Certainly not all of them viewed the Constitution in the same way.
