Right-hand Window.--The scourging of St. Andrew. Below, St. Andrew praying before his cross. As the fresco paintings on the side walls contain incidents in the life of St. Andrew, both previous and subsequent to those depicted in the windows, they are accordingly described here. On the left hand, -over the small side entrance--St. John the Baptist pointing out our Saviour to St. Andrew and the young St. John the Evangelist, (supposed to be the disciple alluded to in John i. 35--40) with the words, "Behold the LAMB of GOD." Our Lord's attitude, pointing heavenwards, while in the act of beckoning, is expressive of His answer, "Come and See," to their question, "Master, where dwellest thou?" Above, in a small circle, the Call of the two bretheren, St. Peter and St. Andrew, while fishing, (Matt. iv. 18, 19.) Under the recessed arch the Divine Hand, expressive of power and blessing, with Cherubim right and left, and below them the figure of an Angel bearing the words of blessing on the Martyr's trial--"Blessed is the Man that endureth temptation," James i. 12. In the opposite recess, it is proposed to paint the Martyrdom of St. Andrew, with attendant figures, and above, the figure of the Majesty, namely, our Lord in Glory, in the attitude of blessing, and expressive of the text--"I will give thee a crown of life," (Rev. ii. 10.) On the great flying buttress' are figures of an Angel presenting a crown and palm branch to St. Andrew, and an illuminated text in allusion to the Saint's life and death--"The path of the Jvst is as the shining Light, wh: shineth more and more vnt...
