Canning, John (editor)., Bell Pub., nd, c1962, 3rd printing, boards, vg-f w/dj, 507 pp w/index & notes on authors, B & W vignette illus., tall 8vo, 'Stories of terrifying events have fascinated men from time immorial...'
This is not a history lesson. Instead the stories are based on real event and real people. Its more of a blending of history and fiction since alot of creative imagination went into the finished story.
Each new story has a sketch at the top of the page by the title. The drawings help the reader decide on what tale to read first. An added bonus the tales are arranged in chronological order. So the tales go from the Vikings to the 1950s. There is a pretty creepy tale concerning a clan of imbred cannibals in Scotland. The stories are escpecially scary since they are based on real events.
