While working for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 1/2 years, she began collecting books. At first it was christian books because of accepting Jesus as her Savior, then it spilled over into books about blacks, their history, literature and then about anything about black people. "Willa's Books" was born out of a need for space. In 1994 she started selling her books on 18th and Vine, in Kansas City, Missouri. I am 1st and foremost a lover of the blues, some of my favorite artist are Percy Mayfield,Bobby Blue Bland,Jimmy Reed, Little Walter to name a few.You can check some of these out at the store. I am talking about vinyl of course.Oh I left out John Lee Hooker. I tease my children telling them they don't know what real music is, mainly my grand kids.The music was so rich during the late 40's 50's 60's and 70's its' all brought back to me as I clean and price books and records and listen to goodddd music. Chuck Berry 's rock n roll,Sam n Dave's Soul all sounds good to me,Jackie Wilson was a great showman and singer and Aretha the Queen of Soul getting her Respect.So we had the best Soul,Blues,Jazz,Pop and let's not forget the Beatles. Our store is a collectors dream in books as well as records.We have 45's33's and a few 78s'.Come in and check us out ,browse and start your own collection. We have Miles Davis, Coltrane,Duke Ellington,Basie, Milt Jackson, Sarah Vaughn , etc,etc Good music can be had by all. |
