This book was classified as "Good". It is actually poor, or, at best, fair. This is a paperback and the outside edges of the binding are worn off. I've used a rubber band to keep the pages intact. I don't recommend this bookseller.

As a tragic romance between fictional characters, this was well written. But the historical facts are dodgy, and I doubt that these people are accurate to real life. Pinkerton comes off as a fanatical abolitionist who risks his own agents for his cause.

I wouldn't have described this book as "fine" it had spine creases and writing on the inside of the book. I think it should have been listed "good." I buy a lot of books and from my experience this is my honest opinion.

In the advert the item was described as a 'softback' or 'softcover' - I received a hardback book. I wanted a paperback, not a hardback! The book arrived in an unpadded, opaque orange plastic bag, which was torn, exposing the book inside. Not impressed.

There was an unexpected signature and note to the original purchaser on the title page. I wouldn't have bought the book had I known it was there. I don't think "Like New" should have marks in the book. But otherwise the book arrived in good condition.

I am pleased with this purchase, however seller failed to mention that the book smelled from smoke. Having once been a smoker myself though, it doesn't upset me terribly. The book is in good condition otherwise and the delivery was excellent.
