Invitation to Dance (2002)

About this title: Richard Palalay's piano takes center stage for this collection of pop and light jazz standards. The tone is bright and airy throughout as he covers songs like "Penny Lane" and "Let's Fall in Love." Palalay's trio, Trio Three-Eighty, provides subtle accompaniment throughout; special guest Gene Nery also provides some welcome texture with muted trumpet, guitar, fugelhorn, and keyboards. A calm and peaceful album which may not rise much above the level of background music, but does a fine job at being just that -- a soothing backdrop for the day's activities.
