About this title: Originally part of the Blue Note 60th Anniversary boxed set, this collection spans music recorded at the label after the death of Alfred Lion in 1971. Contained here is the work of Donald Byrd, Earl Klugh, and Ronnie Laws from the period before the label folded in 1981, as well as material from the new era that began in 1985 when it was resurrected. One of the most interesting additions during that era was US3, who added hip hop sensibility to jazz music; songs from Diane Reeves, Cassandra Wilson, and Stanley Jordan show that the label still has a sense of tradition.
