About this title: Cowboy Hymns & Prayers features a good cross-section of contemporary cowboy singer/songwriters contributing originals and covers of Christian sprituals and inpirational songs. All of the material is drawn from the Warner Western vaults, with all but two of the tracks (Waddie Mitchell's "Cowboy Prayer" and Mark O'Connor's "Amazing Grace") featured on the label's official albums. Like many various artists collections, Cowboy Hymns & Prayers is slightly uneven, but the best of the songs on the record is moving, heartfelt and rustically poetic, as only real cowboys can be.
