About this title: For this recording, 16 of drummer Gene Krupa's big-band recordings have been gathered together with the emphasis on rarities. Irene Day and Anita O'Day have some vocals and among the soloists are tenor saxophonists Vido Musso and Sam Donahue and trumpeter Roy Eldridge (the latter on "Watch the Birdie"). Most of the music has since been reissued on CD by Classics but this collection gives one a good overview of Krupa's underrated swing bands of 1938-41. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
