About this title: The legacy of composer Jerome Kern is celebrated on this hodgepodge release which collects together 16 performances of his songs by a variety of singers: Ella Fitzgerald, Arthur Prysock, Helen Merrill, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, Jackie and Roy, Ernestine Anderson, Fred Astaire, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby and three by Margaret Whiting. None of the music is particularly rare and the emphasis overall is on straight versions of the lyrics and Kern's melodies. This release is more for the general listener than for any serious collector. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
