About this title: This confusingly-titled science-fiction thriller is both an artifact of its time and a surprisingly forward-looking film, in terms of plot. On the one hand, its plot makes it a kind of 1950's B-movie antecedent to The Andromeda Strain -- on the other, it owes a lot to the popular police procedural films and television shows of the decade or so leading up to its production. "I saw this move one time when I was about 9 years old. It was part of a double feature and I do not remember what the other movie was. This one scared the crp out of me. It was about science and not just fantasy, which got me to loving SF films and books. Even though filmed in B&W, I could (and still do!) "see" the color of the bloodrust as it bubbled and absorbed people. I couldn't go into my parent's basement without getting 'that feeling' in my gut after seeing that movie (there was a stain on dad's workbench which was the color that I had imagined for the Martian virus). I guess today's children would just laugh at it but back in '58 or '59 it was really scary! Good, nostalgic flick. I recommend it for late Saturday night with a brew and a bowl of popcorn."
