"Although this has elements of the "Beauty and the Beast" theme (the hero was disfigured by war injuries) it has enough differences to not be a cliche and give it it's own voice.
For example, though the hero is disfigured and burned he is not embittered and still has a loving family, which is a change.
Also the heroine has also been traumatized by events and scarred, though not physically.
Even thought the characters have gone through melodramatic events in their lives it is actually a very sweet and charming read."
