"It's like I was there. Climbing on Everest to the "top of the world." It felt like I was experiencing the tough terrain and the bone chilling temperatures. Roland Smith really gives you a picture perfect snapshot of the events going on in the book. He's a really great, descriptive author. In my opinion, I would give Peak four and a half stars out of five. I would reccommend Peak to anyone who likes to see a charcter change emotionally and physically. I would also reccommend it to anyone who likes suspenseful books that leave you hangin' until the last chapter. Read about Peak Marcello's journey to "the top of the world." Will he become the youngest person to summit Everest? I loved Peak and I hope you will too. If you enjoy reading Peak, I would also reccommend I.Q. by Roland Smith."
"I would recommend this novel to anyone who has a hard time finding a good book these days because of it's great writing style and mainly the well organized plot.
It is really thought-provoking, and really helps you understand the concept of "climbing". It always gives you a sense of the character's thoughts and emotions throughout the book.
Overall, it always keeps the reader interested and begging for more with Peak's humorous comments.
Anyone is guaranteed to love this novel. It explains the relationship between Peak and Josh, explaining how Josh had neglected his son for most of his life, and how Peak had never really liked his step-father, Rolf, even though Rolf treated him like his own son. He loves his twin sisters, but must harden his heart for the task of reaching the summit of Mt. Everest.
It has a very interesting plot; a boy is caught climbing a building in New York City, soon after leaves to Chiang Mai with his step-father who he hasn't seen for years, and is suddenly thrust into the fact that he might actually summit Everest, becoming the youngest person ever to climb it.
Teenagers should absolutely read this thrilling book, which will capture them in it's pages."
"Great read! At the Torino Olympics, Bodie Miller had an interview where he talked about the competitiveness of sport. He thinks it is crazy that we weed people out of sports, so that only the strongest and fastest compete after the age of 20 or so. I think Peak's decision to not reach the summit was in this same vein of thinking. In 21st century America, we are always looking to see who is the best. We have phrases in our popular culture like, "Nobody remembers 2nd place!" The U.S. started allowing professional athletes into the Olympics in 1992 after not getting the gold in Men's Basketball at the Seoul Olympics. Maybe you have heard this phrase as well, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing!" It is pathetic that this is the way the majority of our society thinks. Bravo, Peak!"
"Peak is a great action/adventure book! Its a heart pumping, skin splitting, gut busting action/ adventure book. This book is about a 14-year old teenage boy named Peak who lives in New York City. He loves to scale buildings illegaly. He gets sentenced to three years of probation. Luckily his famous mountain climber Father Joshua Wood takes him in and Peak now has to spend the next three years with Father in Thailand. Just as Peak thinks everthings going wrong his Father presents him with the chance to climb one of the tallest mountains in the world........... Mount Everest! Peak is elited with this oppurtunity. Peak thinks its a great oppurtunity to climb the tallest mountain in the world and to do it with his Father. Now Peaks in a race against time, as he tries to become the youngest person ever in history to climb Mount Everest. Peaks has to try to make it to the top before his 15-Birthday! Get ready for the mountain climb of a lifetime! The author used great details to explain and express what Peak was actually felling. For example, "My head throbbed. My arms and legs ached. And I had four fingernails split all the way down the middle. It felt like some had set them on fire." I would strongly recommend this book to anyone that likes a great and exciting action/adventure book!"
